Choosing the Perfect Air Compressor Hose Fittings
People thought you have to be rich or have an auto repair shop to have an air system. Nowadays, an air system is inexpensive and fast. You can get started by getting the basics, just adding tools as needed.
First you will need an air compressor, hose, regulator and gauges and air tools.
In buying the compressor have in mind the type of tools you’ll be using. Take note that there are two important numbers- the AIR DELIVERY number on your compressor and AIR REQUIREMENT number on your air tool. Make sure that the AIR DELIVERY number on the compressor is larger than the AIR REQUIREMENT number on the air tool.
Choose the right air compressor hose fittings for air tools. The two types-Industrial and Automotive, cannot be interchanged. Fittings are usually measured by the inside diameter (or ID). 3/8ths is preferable over the ¼ inch but both work well. Make sure the air inlet of your tool and fitting have the same NPT number.
Invest in a reel storage system or coil hose if you’re not far from the compressor. You can get by with air hoses but it’s dangerous and makes a messy garage.
Lastly, decide on which tools to buy. The largest tool that you will ever use is the Air Impact Wrench.
